Engine Breaking Up At High Rpm. Looking for some help! My Noble at high RPM is breaking up. At one time it was 4,000 RPM range. Now that we gapped them closer from .040 to .038 it moved up the RPM band to about 5,000 RPM. We then installed new plugs and the problem is still there. We are thinking maybe a a weak coil. How about any other suggestions? Thanks!

I once bought a "new" rebuilt dist with lots of end play, and had your problem, I had to add washers to make sure it spun free, but without end play, which translates into wacky timing at normal loaded rpms as gear/engine reasonance let it ride up and down. Strobe showed timing anything but steady at running rpms.
Mustang Forums At StangNet. well the new motor is in and running good but i gave it a good shot today and at around 4000rpm and up its breaking up so i swaped the coil no change ckeked timing base timing is at 12 ?????really anoying considering its a brand new motor ?had the same prob last year but coil fixed it ??could it be the pick up coil ???are they a bitch to change
